The day we´ve been all waiting for has finally arrived and no one would have ever tought of what was waiting for us. The revolution controller was finally revealed and yes… it looks like a dvd remote controller - iPod shuffle hybrid. None of the hundreds of mock-ups we saw in the recent months was even close to this.

So let´s start. How the revolution controller works? well imagine a 3d mouse you can point at the tv. Using the gyroscopic technology as expected yopu can easily “point and click” since as you can see, there are not a lot of buttons and Nintendo went for something simple.

The controller features a classic D-pad, 3 main buttons in the frontlabeled as ‘A’, ‘x’ and ‘y’. An additional ‘B’ button is in the back and works like the n-64’s ‘z’ button.

In the pictures the 2 front buttons are labeled as ‘a’ and ‘b’. This is because you can turn 90 degrees and hold it like a classic NES Controller. It is unknow which will be the final labels for this buttons.

Next, we can see the ‘power’, ’select’, ’start’ and ‘home’ buttons. There is no need to tell you the first 3 buttons functions. The ‘home’ button, i´m guessing because there was no word about it´s function, works like the 360´s one, it´s like a one click fast access to the online menus and capabilities.

Located at both, top and bottom of the controller, there are two ports where peripherals will be able to connect. the bottom one will be really useful, as you can see in the picture, you will be able to connect some extra stuff like an analog stick with extra triggers. This will give the controller enough flexibility to play classic styles like fighting games.

The device will be wireless as expected and will have an integrated rumble pack feature wich will use regular batteries.

Yes, it looks totally crazy for a gaming controller and there are a lot of questions to be answered yet. But one thing is for sure, Nintendo really meant it when they said they wanted to do something different. I can´t wait to see what kind of games Nintendo has in mind but i´m worried about the third party support, evene when a lot of developers have talked about supporting the big N, i don´t know if it´s going to be easy to see ports and versions of a lot of games, we´ll have to wait and see.

Nintendo showed some working demos to the media, not actual running games but only some small stuff to show how the controller works. Gamespot has a full article on this.
