Nintendo.com gets a makeover

By Nintendude under Nintendo News
nintendodotcom

Nintendo.com appeared today with a new design and some extra sections. First, they added complete sections for both, the Revolution and the Wi Fi connection where you will be able to find some news about the console and service.

I think the old design was cooler than the new one. I´ve also been having some trouble accesing some sections, hopefully this will be fixed soon.

The part i´m loving about the new design is the adittion of the RSS Feed wich will allow you to get some news right to your favourite news reader.

CNN interviews Reggie

By Nintendude under Nintendo News

reggieReggie Fils-Aime executive vice president of sales and marketing for Nintendo was interviews by CNN recently. He talked a bit about the iminent next-gen console wars and the future of Nintendo. Reggie confirmed (by the nth time) the Revolution will have a lower price tag than the PS3 and the 360:

“Do I expect us to be at a lower price point than our competition? Yes I do. Have we determined a price yet? No we haven’t.”

“I think there were some lessons we learned with the GameCube that we need to apply to the Revolution. First, we’ve got make sure that the titles in the first six months are strong and can drive sales. We’ve also got to make sure the console is attractive visually. And we’ve got to deliver on the right consumer needs. With GameCube, at the time, portability was thought to be a big factor – that’s why it has a handle. Obviously, that wasn’t the case.”

Reggie also hinted new design coming for the DS, something similar to what they did to the GBA when the GBA SP showed up.

“As soon as [the DS] was launched, we started looking at ways to tweak it visually”.

DS to recognize handwriting

By Nintendude under Nintendo DS, Nintendo News

Zi Corporation Zi Corporation, a leading provider of intelligent interface solutions, today announced that it has signed a licensing agreement with Nintendo, under the agreement, Nintendo DS developers can employ Zi’s Decuma handwriting recognition technology while creating software for the Nintendo DS handheld video game system.

Decuma Alphabetic handwriting recognition software provides fast and natural handwriting input, enabling users to focus on the content rather than the writing. Users can closely mimic writing with pen and paper, with letters and words being written and interpreted in a natural flow, allowing for easy editing and correction.

This technology could have a lot of applications for the DS, text chatting would become easier, and a lot of nintendo games could make use of this for some extra interaction. How about writing the solution of a puzzle or your character´s name in a rpg instead of typing it.

We´ll have to wait and see how this technology is applied to the ds but i think we could see some applications similar to the ones used on Palms and smartphones wich would be really cool.

It´s official: Revolution will be less powerful than XBox360 and PS3

By Nintendude under Satoru Iwata, Nintendo News

Ok, not so surprising news right? we all knew Nintendo Revolution would likely be last in terms of horsepower but Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata confirmed it a few days ago when he was interviewed at g4.

“”If you are just going to compare the spec sheets and spec numbers, Revolution may not have an equal or higher number as the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. But the fact of the matter is that if people are going to connect our machine and their machine to an ordinary TV set at home and try to compare the differences, I really don’t think that they can tell such a huge difference between the machines.”

This means that if you connect and compare the revoltion with one of the other consoles to a regular tv the graphics will look pretty much the same. The problem will come when people starts to get HD tv´s, then the difference will be easy to notice.

I think we´ll be seeing the consoles really going different ways in the next generation. Sony is going for more graphic power, Microsoft is betting for online gaming and Nintendo will keep being the most innovative company. Maybe we won´t even have a “console war” as we were all expecting.

Game boy micro commercial

Wow, that´s too much pink. 1up has the new Game boy micro commercial wich will start airing soon and looks like Nintendo has a well defined strategy: they want to attract non-gamers, that includes girls, adults and some other people you wouldn´t usually imagine playing videogames.

Some official release dates for Europe were just announced by Nintendo, mark your calendars and start counting the days if you are interested in these games.

First we have Batallion Wars, this game has surprised a lot of people who weren´t expecting much since of this gamecube strategy game. Batallion wars has received good critics since it´s release on the US just a week ago and will be hitting european stores on December 11th. Why is this game shipping so late? i have no idea but it might be worth the wait.

Then there´s Mario Baseball, one of the Mario sports series games that are coming to the cube. This game will be available on November 11th.
