Sims creator talks about the revolution

By Nintendude under Nintendo Revolution

Will Wright, creator of The Sims expressed his interest on the revolution in a recent interview with Shacknews.

“I’m really interested in the Revolution,” he said, “to see how the controller works out. That looks pretty cool. It looks very interesting to me. I like the idea of taking the games more outside the box and more into that close-body kind of space.”

Wright also discussed other subjects suchs as the DS and the PC gaming industry:

“The handheld space is interesting, how that’s developing with the DS in particular,” he went on. “The computer gaming side seems more about evolution and polish, but there’s still something to be said for that. Civ IV, which I’m looking forward to playing, I’m sure is a really excellent game. I haven’t played it yet, but I can’t wait to.”

I´m sure he will do a great job, he has a great rsponsability in his hands since the game will probably be the most expected Revolution game.

Mario Paint coming to the DS and Revolution

mariopaintRemember Mario Paint? that amazing snes game wich came with a mouse where you were able to let the artist you have inside go wild and you could squash some flies and even compose music?. Well if you enjoyed it as much as i did get ready because according to Spong a Mario Paint version is coming to both the DS and the nintendo revolution.

Reactions and impression of the revolution´s controller

By Nintendude under Nintendo Revolution
Media

IGN
“For months, years even, we’ve been hearing Nintendo reiterate that it does not want to be part of the same battle that Sony and Microsoft are deeply entrenched in. However, with a system like GameCube, the comparisons are inevitable. With Revolution and its one-of-a-kind approach to the controller, drawing these parallels just became a lot more difficult. This was an important message from Nintendo in our meeting. It wants to explore uncharted waters, be a blue ocean company, and not find itself sailing the bloody waters where the competition resides.”

Joystiq
“One thing is for sure…Nintendo has balls.”

Kotaku
“Like our TV remote, this is something that you put on your coffee table. Nintendo wants this to be part of our lives”

Industry

THQ
“Nintendo has long been a trailblazer, and this controller design reinforces that reputation,” said Brian Farrell, president and CEO of THQ. “We enthusiastically support Nintendo’s next console because we believe their approach of continual innovation is very much in line with our own strategy of creating unique and innovative games for the next generation of hardware.”

Activision
“What we’re seeing from this controller is the same thing we saw with Nintendo DS,” said Chuck Huebner, Head of Worldwide Studios, Activision, Inc. “It’s a system that’s designed with an eye on enticing new players to the video game industry, and that’s something we firmly support.”

EA
“Game control is essential – it’s the area where perhaps the most game-play improvement can be made,” said John Schappert, Sr. Vice President and General Manager of Electronic Arts Canada. “While our portfolio represents a full array of titles across all genres, I think our sports titles might be the first to immediately take advantage of what this novel ‘freehand’ type of control has to offer.”

The revolution controller is here!

revolution

The day we´ve been all waiting for has finally arrived and no one would have ever tought of what was waiting for us. The revolution controller was finally revealed and yes… it looks like a dvd remote controller - iPod shuffle hybrid. None of the hundreds of mock-ups we saw in the recent months was even close to this.

So let´s start. How the revolution controller works? well imagine a 3d mouse you can point at the tv. Using the gyroscopic technology as expected yopu can easily “point and click” since as you can see, there are not a lot of buttons and Nintendo went for something simple.

The controller features a classic D-pad, 3 main buttons in the frontlabeled as ‘A’, ‘x’ and ‘y’. An additional ‘B’ button is in the back and works like the n-64’s ‘z’ button.

In the pictures the 2 front buttons are labeled as ‘a’ and ‘b’. This is because you can turn 90 degrees and hold it like a classic NES Controller. It is unknow which will be the final labels for this buttons.

Next, we can see the ‘power’, ’select’, ’start’ and ‘home’ buttons. There is no need to tell you the first 3 buttons functions. The ‘home’ button, i´m guessing because there was no word about it´s function, works like the 360´s one, it´s like a one click fast access to the online menus and capabilities.

Can competitors simply copy Revolution’s controller?

By Nintendude under Nintendo Revolution, Nintendo News

Perry Kaplan, NOA´s vice president of marketing and corporate affairs was recently asked about the revolution controller. Nintendo said one of the main reasons for not showing the controller was that the comptition might decide to copy the idea and add it to their own systems, so Kaplan was asked if the controller is actually something that can´t be simply added by Microsoft or sony as an add-on:

“The entire controller will be remarkably innovative. We’re working on something that truly will provide a unique gameplay experience. That’s our goal — to not only have a unique controller, but introduce a new way to enjoy games. We’ll have to see if its innovation inspires others to creativity as well. And remember, we are securing the appropriate intellectual property rights for the product.”

I´ve always wondered about this, i think the unique feature of the revolution´s controller would have to be something that directly interacts with the console´s hardware, otherwise, there´s no point in hiding it since they can just add it later even if the 360 or ps3 already launched.

Hopefully we´ll find answers this week, get ready for the TGS!.

THQ joins the revolution

By Nintendude under THQ, Nintendo Revolution, Nintendo News

Brian Farrel, THQ president has talked abou the company´s plans for the revolution. He confirmed that THQ is developing games for the next-generation Nintendo console.

It´s great to see third parties joining Nintendo for revolution games development, apparently they´ve been working very closely with Nintendo “We’re seeing more from Nintendo now [for Revolution] than we have an any other Nintendo platform.” said Farrel when IGN asked him but they haven´t revealed too much due to Non-Disclossure agreements.

Farrel also said that they feel like “Nintendo is waking up”. I´m glad to hear that.

By Nintendude under Nintendo Rumors, Nintendo Revolution

Matt Casamassina, IGNCube editor in chief has hinted that an announcement concerning the Nintendo Revolution will be made in the next few days / weeks. Matt has a section at IGN called mailbag where he answers fan mail, recently he wrote this:

Q: When will more revolution news be announced?

A: Shortly after the Leipzig Games Convention (Aug 17th). I don’t have an exact time frame — it could be a day or a week, but I don’t expect it will be much longer.

After that:

Q: In your last mailbox you mentioned that there would be more information about the revolution shortly after Leipzig. How educated of a guess is this?

A: I wouldn’t call it a guess.

Expect more info on the revolution soon :)

New Metroid Prime 3 Info

Metroid PrimeMetroid Prime 3 will be the last game of the trilogy and is coming for Nintendo Revolution. We knew pretty much nothing about the game except for the small and not very useful video Nintendo showed at e3.

Luminoth Temple had an exclusive interview with one of the developers who gave a couple details and general info on the game.

Metroid Prime 3 will be First person shooter as expected, “We don’t plan on using a third-person camera for the times when Samus is in a suit”. Dide he just gave a hint on Samus not wearing a suit at some point of the game? Maybe.

Expect to see some known enemies and concepts, such as Phazon, visual improvements and a lot of new weapons.

The game will have basically the same gameplay but it will also take advantage of the controller´s features wich of course we don´t know yet. “We plan on taking advantage of a number of new features in the Revolution, including the controller”

The game will launch on 2006, probably as one of the first games for the Revolution.
